I Can Float!!

Trip finished his swim/float lessons early being the overachiever that he is. :) He hated every minute of it and wasn't afraid to let us all know about it. It was amazing watching him progress and then finally understanding how to float. We will be forever grateful to Mrs. Sheri for teaching Trip a skill that could potentially save his life.

That being said... he has some good days and bad days when we practice at home. Mrs. Sheri warned us that as his parents he will look to us to save him instead of making him float. The first time we tried at home, Trip ripped off my bathing suit top trying to get out of the float position! We are going back to Mrs. Sheri this month for a refresher lesson. She said this happens often and one lesson will get him back on track.

He's certainly a water rat and having a blast in the pool this summer!

Trip's Swimming Lessons

Trip started his swimming lessons today. They aren't the typical "Mommy and Me" swimming lessons where we both get in the water and have a pleasant experience. Thesse are hard core survival lessons that teach him to turn over and float if he accidentally falls in the water. They are every day of the week for 10 minutes a day.

Today was not much fun for any of us. First he has to wear this speedo that is called a swim diaper. It's quite funny. I'm sure he'll be thrilled with the pictures when he's older. The instructor took him into the water and he started to scream. He continued to do so for the entire 10 minutes of the lesson. The instructor had to hold him in the water in a float position by his head and shoulders. He tried to rip her hands off to get away. She did comment on how strong he is even though I don't think it was a compliment at the time.

I've been told it will get worse before it gets better. She said to expect screaming and crying when we turn down her street in the near future. Regardless, I don't care how we are tortured as long as he learns this important skill. After his fall in our pool, I'm willing to put us all through anything to teach him skills that can save his life.

Easter Weekend

With Colson away at the Masters over Easter, it stands to reason that Trip would be sick the entire weekend. Gaky and Pops came in to give me some much needed assistance. Even though Trip was under the weather, he felt well enough on Saturday to hunt eggs. On Sunday the Easter Bunny brought Trip a Spiderman four wheeler that made him feel better for a little while.

Trip's 1st Birthday!

Trip's first birthday was Saturday and we had a ball! We had friends and family join us for his first taste of cake that he hated, his first whack at a pinata that he loved, and for love and laughter. We are so blessed to have so many friends and family to share the day with. Trip has been such a joy and we couldn't be more proud to have him be apart of our family. HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY T-RIP!!

Trip Walks!

Trip started walking Jan. 13, but this is the first decent video we have of him doing it. It's been a lot of fun and interesting to see the trips (no pun intended) and bruises. He's definitely keeping us on our toes!
